Challenge
The customer required additional warehouse and inspection space in order to handle a supplier defect. Due to the large quantities of non-conforming parts that needed to be reworked, the customer was worried about the space that would be required and the potential of mixing non-conforming and conforming parts in their plant.
Why choose PIC
PIC was able to find flexible warehouse space five miles from the customer’s plant. PIC handled all of the commercial details and was able to provide 15,000 square feet of warehouse space in a very short period of time.
Solution
All suspect product form the customer’s manufacturing facility and numerous distribution centers in the US and Canada were moved into the PIC warehouse. PIC was able to provide the proper lighting, workspace and tooling within days.
Benefit
Numerous benefits were achieved. Product was not only moved out of the customer’s locations to prevent mixing of parts, but also, PIC was able to increase the square footage at the drop of a hat to accommodate the customer’s volumes. PIC provided the expertise required to rework this part and free up the customers’ resources. As trucks start arriving with the defective product, PIC was up and running, unpacking, reworking and packing within 8-10 hours. Within 2-3 weeks PIC was able to inspect and rework over one million defective parts and meet the customer’s shipping schedule. This in turn, eliminated the potential threat of late fees associated with late or short shipments.
